The Frome Hoard and Coin Holders

coin holdersIt’s important to protect your investments, whether they’re large scale or small scale. Physically, I mean. For example, it doesn’t matter if you have a house or tons of valuable Morgan dollars, you don’t want them to be affected by the elements. If you have the former, you need proper coin folders to hold your coins. That way you can browse your collection at any time without being afraid of how oxygen or fingerprints will affect them.

Take for example, the recent unearthing of the Frome Hoard in England and Scotland. Over 52,500 coins were discover via metal detector last summer. This hoard is the largest Roman coin collection found in a single pot. Dating from the 3rd century BC, there are also four gold neck ornaments, known as torcs. The coin hoard is valued at over a half million dollars and the Museum of Somerset secured the hoard with funds raised over the past 30 years. You can bet the museum will have a fine display of coin holders to boot.

So do like the Museum and take charge of how you display your coin collections. Whether you choose coin folders or individual coin holders for more expensive pieces, how you plan to show off your coin collection matters.
